In order to encourage children to embrace the use of computer for coding in an interesting and educative way, The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) recently concluded her first kiddies’ camp which started on July 31st in Lagos State.
The camp was organized to train children from age 6 – 10 how to code using Kodu. With Kodu, the children were able to show their creativity as they learnt how to create their own games with the application.
The children utilized the complexities of computer programming to create their very own interactive computer video game. They learnt to create characters, backgrounds, and stories for a complete game programming experience. Instructors helped them to use creative problem solving to work through programming problems and use their creativity in an interactive medium.
Also, the programme gave room for the kids to talk about their future aspiration and what they would like to do with technology. Educating and guiding the kids on technology allowed them to learn in a whole new way as it developed them not only to be users of the technological tools but also inventors, designers and builders.
At the graduation ceremony, the children presented the games they created and explain how they were able to create the games. Prizes were also given out to the best student, the student with the best game and the best-behaved student.
W.TEC is passionate about equipping the next generation of coders, designers, and innovators with the skills and knowledge to build amazing programs, games and apps. Through our innovative curricula, student centered approach, and cutting edge technology, we enrich the lives of students with 21st century technology skills.
The goal of the W.TEC Kid’s Technology Camp is to create a generation of young programmers, designers, and entrepreneurs who can build amazing games, apps, and more. By making computer programming incredibly fun and engaging through game design, your daughter will gain the motivation to learn to code in actual development environments while developing real world skills and unleash the creativity of the child.
