W.TEC recently participated at the just concluded International Girls in ICT Day programme organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications at Abuja on the 27th and 28th of April, 2017.
W.TEC been part of the tech designers for the Ministry’s Digital Girls Club was invited to facilitate sessions for a two-day event which was part of the ministry’s programme to mark 2017 International Girls in ICT Day, hosted by the Ministry.
The two-day event featured a hands-on ICT training workshop plus an ”ICT career fair Day” for select girls from some public secondary schools from Abuja – Nigeria.
The International Girls in ICT Day is an initiative of the ITU. This initiative is aimed at creating a global movement that empowers girls and young women to consider careers in the growing fields of ICT, enabling both females and technology companies to reap the benefits of bigger participation of female in the ICT sector.
W.TEC was represented at the event by its Programmes Officer Mrs Folashade Braimoh. Mrs Braimoh performed several roles at the event from facilitating blog site development sessions to setting criteria for evaluating the best 3 presentations/projects for (NIGCOMSAT) Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited and also been one of the judges for the Website development workshop contest.
On the second and final day of the event, all participants and officials involved were taken on an excursion to Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) Abuja before proceeding to the Innovation and Development Department of the organisation for the closing ceremony were projects produced by students were presented with prizes presented to distinguished students. The closing ceremony was graced by the permanent secretary of the Ministry.
