The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) brings to the CodeLagos project her wealth of experience from the success of her after-school computer club for girls WTEC Academy as she partners with Lagos State Ministry of Education as a delivery partner for the effective running of the project.
The CodeLagos project is an initiative of the Lagos Ministry of Education to provide every student and youth at large in Lagos State the opportunities to learn to code FREE of charge.
The main objective of the programme is for Lagos State’s citizens to leverage on the latest technological advancements for their collective development. The Lagos State Ministry of Education aims at making coding curriculum accessible to every student in Lagos State.
The CodeLagos training holds in public and private schools across Lagos state as well as ICT centres and Public Libraries. In respect to this, training sessions at designated schools is strictly for students of the schools while training sessions at various public libraries is open to members of the public who registered with a particular library.
Due to this, a total of 145 ICT instructors from 116 public and private schools in Lagos State participated in the 2-Day training which equipped them with the necessary competence and skills to effectively teach the coding classes in their respective schools
W.TEC’s partnership with CodeLagos is to overlook assigned secondary schools, ICT centres and public libraries in the Lagos Mainland zone for the project. The monitoring responsibility of W.TEC is to make sure that set standards of the project are met by the schools and also sustaining adequate publicity for the assigned centres.
Furthermore the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Obafela Bank-Olemoh stated on Thursday, October 19th, 2017 at the commencement of the training of selected facilitators for CodeLagos ’ at the newly upgraded ultramodern Herbert Macaulay Public Library – Yaba, that ‘’the Lagos State Government is reiterating its commitment to making coding education, accessible to every resident of Lagos State’’.
