Programmes

W.TEC runs a number of technology-facilitated and educational projects each year. Our main programmes are:

  1. W.TEC Girls
  2. W.TEC Young Women
  3. W.TEC Women
  4. Alumni Network
  5. Research
These programs target mostly women and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds, who are not typically able to afford technology trainings. Learn about our past programmes.

  1. W.TEC Girls

W.TEC Girls’ main activity is the 1-week residential W.TEC Girls Technology Camp. Through workshops, career counselling, mentoring and excursions, we will help secondary school students develop technology literacy skills and gain an awareness of career options related to technology, science and engineering.

The 3rd edition of the W.TEC Girls Technology Camp will take place in August 2010. This camp is targeted at girls who are:
    • Intelligent, ambitious and currently in JSS 2 - SSS 2 (no younger than 11 years)
    • Interested in and enjoys using computers and exploring the Internet
    • Planning or exploring a career using computers and/or other information and communication technology (ICTs) e.g. telecommunications
Send an email to info@w-teconline.org to find out more about the Girls Technology Camp.

NEW: We are now accepting applications for the 2010 W.TEC Girls Technology Camp

  2. W.TEC Young Women

The W.TEC Young Women's Programme programme helps women (18 to 30 years) develop ICT skills for four key aspects of their lives: Leadership; Activism; Career Preparation; and Learning.

The 7-day programme will teach the basics of using computers and applications that they are likely to use in school or work. Young women will also participate in collaborative technology-based projects, career counselling, work placement and mentoring schemes.

  3. W.TEC Women

The W.TEC Women's Programme provides basic ICT skills to non-technical older women who wish to use ICTs to enhance their businesses or manage social movements. For 2 weeks, they will learn to use computers and other tools (like mobile phones) to facilitate their professional and activist lives.

  4. Alumni Programme

Participants of W.TEC programmes will graduate into the W.TEC Alumni Programme, which will offer support and membership to the alumni network, where resources focused on ICT, career and personal development will be shared.

  5. Research

The Research programme will explore women’s uses of technology with an eye to increasing and improving the scope of use for social and economic empowerment.
