2011:

Radio for Women’s Development: ‘Radio for Women’s Development: Examining the Relationship between Access and Impact’ explored Nigerian women’s perceptions of how radio, as a source of information and as a tool, is empowering them and improving the quality of their lives – be it with respect to economic development, community involvement, social awareness or other aspects of their lives. This project also looked at how women are accessing radio content: do they listen to radio at home, via their mobile phone or on the Internet? This project was funded by the International Development Research Centre (IRDC).

4th W.TEC Girls Technology Camp: The Camp is a W.TEC initiative aimed at helping girls develop an early interest in computers and other information technology. The long-term goal is to increase the numbers of women working with and using information technology productively for professional and leadership activities. Residential camp took place in August 2011 and was targeted at girls in JSS 2 to SS2. For one week, the young women participated in technology workshops and leadership activities.

16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence Seminar Series: W.TEC recognises that breaches of security affects many young people – both girls and boys – who are eager to explore the benefits of these new tools but who might have little knowledge on how to protect their personal information online. To address this knowledge gap, W.TEC organised a seminar series at 10 Lagos-area secondary schools on “Staying Safe Online.” This workshop series, which 1,710 students participated in, highlighted many of the risks posed when online and provided tips to prevent many of these threats from occurring.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence is a United Nations campaign. It takes place annually from the 25th November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to the 10th December (International Human Rights Day).
