The ”Safer Internet Day” (Feb 7th) is a day set aside to raise awareness for the empowerment of more people to using Internet technology towards community development.
The focus of Facebook for the Safer Internet Day is making the internet, safer for the youth.
To this effect, Facebook partnered with W.TEC in Nigeria to host a day of workshops and fun activities for secondary school students, through which the students will learn innovative ways of using the Internet safely.
The programme was held on Friday, February 10th, the day was a fun-filled learning experience for invited students from Aje High School, Lagos City Model College, Wesley Girls Senior. Secondary School and host school Reagan Memorial all from the Sabo – Yaba area of Lagos State were treated to a day of workshops and interactive activities.
The first activity of the day was writing and posting on the Dream Safer Internet Board by the students, how they believe the Internet could be made safer, this was done for all participating students to read and learn from each other. The second activity of the day was a workshop centring on the positives of using the Internet plus online safety techniques for youth.
The day was an amazing one for all participating students as they were given the opportunity to contribute towards forging a new generation of Nigerian internet users.
