Oreoluwa Somolu, Executive Director
Oreoluwa Somolu is Executive Director of the
Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC). Prior to this, she was Project
Manager of Youth Empowerment & Restoration Initiative, an organisation working to
increase local content in the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry by raising awareness of Oil
and Gas careers among students.
Oreoluwa worked for several years in the United States
at an educational non-for-profit organisation on a number of projects,
which explored the interplay between gender and technology and which sought
to attract more girls and women to study and work in science and technology-related
fields.
She has a Bachelors degree in Economics from Essex
University, U.K. and a Masters degree in Analysis, Design and Management
of Information Systems from the London School of Economics & Political
Science. Her research interests are the applications of technology in
improving lifelong learning and also to raise the economic and social
conditions of people (especially women and children) in the developing
world.
Oreoluwa’s publications include ‘Telling
Our Own Stories: African Women Blogging for Social Change’ (Gender
& Development Journal) and ‘Making the Most of On-line Learning:
An Introduction to Learning on the Internet’ (Education Development
Center).
Temilade Allo, Technology Officer
Temilade Allo is an IT Personnel with a strong business background and core technical background. She is an effective communicator (skilled in both listening and speaking), a persuasive negotiator, and a customer-orientated individual.
She has worked as a green team member and support team for the deployment of Wireless LAN at NNPC, Abuja during her six months SIWES program. She is very passionate about the Rights of Women, and was made the Sister’s Secretary during her National Youth Corp Service, where she organized and engaged actively in various women programs. She has worked in Intercontinental Bank as the Branch Treasury Officer and Relationship Officer where she honed her skills in business development and effective human relationships. She has participated in various ICT programs, seminars and workshops.
She is currently working in W.TEC as the Technology Officer, where she oversees all the technology issues and carries out first tier technical support as required. She also carries out computer training for young women and participates in other workshops and tactical duties as decided by W.TEC. She participates actively in strategic planning and program implementation for W.TEC activities.
She is a graduate of Computer Engineering from Covenant University. Her interests include interacting with young people and enlightening them at any given chance, reading motivational books, attending IT and Leadership workshops and building human relationships.
Akinwumi Morakinyo, Assistance Technology Officer
Akinwumi Morakinyo is an ICT expert, a youth leader and social reformist. He happens to be the only man among the entire W.TEC team due to his passion for women developmental issues. He believes that the social rights of women can not be totally guaranteed if men are not involved or carried along. He was a Faculty Officer in Aptech Computer Education, an indian computer training institute that trains young people in Software Development and Enginnering.
He has worked on several ICT projects, designed a number of software application and has participated in various ICT workshops, leadership seminars and conferences. Prior to this, he worked as a Support Chief of NetServeAfrica Limited, a bulk SMS retail company specialised in selling short messaging platform to companies, banks and mulitinationals through installations, training and supports.
He is presently working with W.TEC in the area of Website Design or Redesign, website maintenance and development, overseas the maintenance of software & hardware appliances in the office and the W.TEC Hub. He strategises on plan development of project implementation, coordinates training on ICT and women social development and participate in fundraising activities of the organisation. His hobbies include reading, listening to music and hanging out with young people.
Nkechi Nmachi, Office Assistant
Nkechi Nnamchi is a student of Lagos State Polytechnic, studying Business Administration. She is passionate about ICT, enjoys
keeping herself busy and learning new things. She currently manages the W.TEC cybercafe. She has acquired a lot of knowledge while working with W.TEC in terms of computer skills, different software programmes as well as in her acedemics.
She believes all these will help in her future career and generally in life. Her hobbies are meeting people and learning new things as a result of meeting new poeple.
Oghomwen Ehigie, Volunteer Facilitator (Networking for Success)
Oghomwen Ehigie
is a video and film producer and writer. She wrote for a multicultural magazine in Canada, where she attended film school. Prior to
this, she worked as a research project coordinator for a non-profit organisation, where she coordinated a research project on
victimization of African women in the Peel Region of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. She also volunteered for a scholarship program at
Kingdom Covenant Center in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. During this program, she gave presentations to college bound students on
how to write scholarship essays that get noticed.
Amaka Ifejianyi - Intern (Networking for Success)
Amaka Ifejianyi
graduated from University of Nigeria, Nsukka from the department of Computer Science. She is yet to go for her N.Y.S.C (National Youth
Service Corp) program. Amaka is very passionate about business computing, especially the management aspect of it and she is presently
volunteering and undergoing training on the Networking for Success with W.TEC. She believes this training will go a long way
in actualizing her dream.
She enjoys traveling, reading and watching soccer.
